The region
North of the Annapurna massif the monsoon simply stops: Mustang is a rain-shadow desert of red cliffs, sky caves and walled Lo Manthang, where the last king lived until 2008. Tibetan Buddhism here is lived, not performed.
Trek in June — impossible almost anywhere else in Nepal — and watch Tiji's masked dances chase demons from the kingdom.
